On June 5th, our family (Jose:dad, Dawn: mom, Joseph: 16, Eli: 15) will be spending a week serving at Royal Family Kids Camp, a camp for kids who are a part of the foster care system. It is a week where they have the chance to get away and have fun, be celebrated and told about the love of Jesus. Last year, Jose, my husband was asked to come serve as the nurse for the week. It was divine timing because he was at a pivotal moment in his faith journey. When he came back, he was changed. Jose’s childhood had similar backdrops to some of the campers. Survival mode was how he lived and made it through his childhood. Over the few years leading up to him serving at Royal family, Jose discovered how the love of God changes and empowers him to be the man, husband and father he is purposed to be. And so when he had the chance to show that same love to these kids that he saw himself in, and how it changed their lives, it then in turn changed his. When Jose came back from Royal Family last year, he rallied our family together and said, “We HAVE to do this together as a family next year.” And so here we are, getting ready to leave for camp in just one week. We are excited to share the love of Jesus and the hope He offers for these kids’ futures, while also getting the chance to build our marriage and family as we serve together.
