Candy math. Never seen him so motivated to count up to a hundred. 😂
My latest YouTube video is up this morning 😊 I've been considering focusing on "nature-inspired" homeschooling this year- including projects like urban gardening, soapmaking, and needlework (and using oils!) ... so as I'm toying with the idea and planning to incorporate these ideas I'll share them with you all💕 Keep watching for weekly updates on how we create this transition in our school day📚 (Link in bio). #natureinspired #naturehomeschooling #homeschoolmom . . . . #homeschoolvlogger #homeschoolinfluencers #ihsnet #youtuber #youtubemamas
While there are sooo many ways to notebook, you can't possibly do all of them. Yesterday on my channel, I shared what notebooking looks like in our homeschool this year. https://youtu.be/sNXWlBCnrfo
"Education is more than the transference of knowledge. It is the transmission of values, culture, and the proper ordering of loves." — "We have abandoned those ideals once animating our civilization, refusing to learn them anew with each generation. We have assumed their transfer to be automatic." — "The hard, precipitous path of classical education ideally led not to knowledge alone, but to the cultivation of mind and spirit. Knowledge did not in and of itself, justify the sweat. The climb was meant to transform one’s intellectual and aesthetic nature as well." — "Without a finely tuned and oft-nourished sense of the past, both near and distant, we have no culture." I have read so much this summer that has been a balm and encouragement to me as a Classical educator. This life is not easy, but it is worthy. I can't wait to see what this school year brings my boys and me. #memoriapress #memoriapresskindergarten #memoriapresspreschool #climbingparnassus #sodalitasgathering

It's birthday time around here so I'm working on the responsibilities and privileges lists for the girls for next year. I am so excited to have this new resource to pull ideas from so I don't have to come up with them all on my own!! (Link in profile)
Next up- Reading Eggs! @readingeggs
It's so hard to believe that we start Kindergarten on Monday! I'm so thankful for @memoriapress making it so easy to give my kids a solid Classical education. This will be my first year officially teaching two kids, so I will be praying that we have a great year. Will you pray for our little homeschool too? #backtoschool #backtohomeschool #homeschoolcurriculum #homeschoolhaul

Our Friday schedule is different from the rest of the homeschool week. I made it a bit lighter to allow extra time if there's any work that has to be made up, and to give us time for outings. This is what our typical Friday schedule looks like. What does yours look like?
He made a boomerang out of paper that really does fly back to him. Swipe to see the video. . We dont allow t.v. until 5p.m. even in the summertime unless its educational, and so this guy has come to love instructional YouTube videos that show him how to build from objects around the house, which I do consider educational. I can always tell when be gets distracted by cat videos, though, because of the hysterical giggles coming from his room. Which I do not consider educational. 😂🐺 Some of our favorites he has made so far are a rocket stove from tin cans, a airplane with spinning propeller from craft sticks, this, and a steam boat that I will show you the video of soon. .⚾🚤🛫🚀🔥 Oh and representing all true #countrykids he has a scuffed up face from boy play and #carhartt overall hand-me-downs from big brother that are perfectly roughed up just like he likes them! @carhartt . #interestleadlearning #selfmotivated #frogcreekschool #frogcreeksummertime #frogcreekboys
While the little ones rest in the afternoon, I always try to take some time to work on goals the kids have for themselves. Earlier this week, I did some calligraphy with Kylee (9). In this photo I'm working with Lucie on writing her name with correctly formed letters. #montessoriathome #montessorichild #montessorimom #learningtowrite #writingbeforereading #teachermom #ihsnet #homeschool #montessori

I'm learning piano along with my kiddo. I think it's good for him to see mama struggling as much as he does. It cracks him up when I make a mistake. Thank you @hoffmanacademy ❤
I think summer fevers should be illegal. Just saying. . What did homeschool look like for you today? Share here!
I've been organizing our school space all week. Not because it's a mess, but because I'm obsessive over organization. Some call it OCD, but in my family it's called #thesickness . Is your space ready for the new year? When are you starting? #ihsnet #homeschoolinfluencers #homeschool #organizedspace #iloveiloilo #cholitaboliviana
A #tbt to a field trip day at the NC Aquarium. 12 years into homeschooling & my kids still surprise me. Sharing on the blog today about how this unschooled kid tackled our required standardized testing. (Direct link in profile.) — #homeschooling #ihsnet #unschooling #fieldtripfun #seejamieblog
I think we've got another future bookworm. She especially loves pop-up books. They're her favorites. 😁
Books!!!! ❤️ I might have a teensy book addiction. Scroll to see all my goodies, some purchased and some borrowed, but all library books! 1️⃣ I bought all these used library books at the farmers' market yesterday. Just $1 each! 2️⃣ And I picked up another book at the library. Because Pat Conroy. 3️⃣ I got this lovely King Arthur book for 50 cents and I think my boy will love it this year! 4️⃣ We haven't started back to homeschool yet but I went ahead and picked up a few read-alouds for when we do kick things off! — #bookstagram #bookaddict #yaybooks #readinglife #librarybooks #ihsnet #homeschoolmom #readaloudrevival
#ad Grateful to find this kid working diligently on his Readers in Residence assignment since I've been buried in a pile of books with my youngest this morning! 📚😊🙋 . The 12 year old spent the summer learning how to make videos. I love that she is stretching her creative side. We used a new course from my friend @raisingdavinci . Follow the link in my profile for more. #homeschoolwin #homeschool #homeschoolart #filmmakingforkids #ihsnet #bravewriterlifestyle
So, last year I only managed to pack lunches for co-op a total of twice. Hopefully this year will be better because we have to stay through lunch since I'm teaching after! Today the boys have cream cheese and jelly bagels, green grapes, rainbow carrots, and dried cranberries. #yumbox #schoollunchbox #homeschoolcoop
Helping my children to think and ponder is one of my goals as a parent and teacher. Learning about the roots of icons this week as a part of our study of Russian history has given us the opportunity to talk about humanity's propensity to wander and forget WHY we started doing things. We need to be thinking deeply, so we don't allow good things to become formulaic ritual - drawing us away from the original intent of rich relationship with God. #intentionalparenting #cultivateculture
Yesterday was our NINTH first day of school. To say I'm #blessed is an understatement. You see, I set out to homeschool to educate my children, but in the end, I've learned more than I ever imagined. God molds us through homeschooling, He breaks us through homeschooling, and our ministry shapes the lives of not only our children by the world around us. We are truly raising up arrows, children for HIS kingdom, and workers for His service. I may not know the plan God has for each of these blessings but HE does! Homeschooling is a full time job, its harder than I ever imagined, but I am so thankful I've been able to enjoy this journey with my children. My goal this year is not to take one day for granted, but to serve Him , educate them, and do this homeschool thing to the BEST of my ability. #ihsnet #choosejoy #BaileyHS #homeschoolmom #backtoschool #firstdayofschool #7thgrade #5thgrade #kindergarten PS: want a #choosejoy pendent like mine? My #ihsnet takeover is winding down, but I'd love it if you'd join me over at @Oaxacaborn -- especially if you're an outlier. ❤️Maybe you have an only child, maybe you're surprised you're even homeschooling at all, maybe your situation just doesn't look like anyone else's, or maybe you find yourself wondering what in the world you'll do with the intense, spirited, gifted, absolutely wonderful wild child in your life. You're not alone! ❤️
Gina from @oaxacaborn here, continuing to take over the #ihsnet Instagram. 🌵 Do you have #Tolkien 's Hobbit on your homeschool's required reading list? My daughter is getting a copy for her 7th birthday -- and that's because I told her no, she couldn't have it for her 6th. 😂 When did you first read the #Hobbit ?
I have had a blast these past few days teaching #environmentalscience to my son's @boyscoutsofamerica troop. While it is often taught at summer camp, I wanted to assure the material was covered well - it's an #eaglerequiredmeritbadge after all. Today, we discovered the #biodiversity of our local area by gathering our own species data from several study sites. We also explored the proposed liquified natural gas terminal / pipeline that has been so hotly contested locally and studied the published #environmentalimpactstatement . I'll be sharing more details of our endeavors on my blog each Sunday in September (link in profile). #meritbadges #scouting #science #ihsnet
The girls are loving their new books from @wonderbly. I had so much fun personalizing each book for them. (Notice how the girls on each cover are a bit different?) It's fun to read a book in which you star as the main character. :) Full review coming on the blog soon! :) . . . #amreading #kidsbooks #bookstagram #ihsnet #kidsofinstagram #personalized #justforme #momblogger #mommylife #momofgirls #funlearning #girlmom
The boys got fresh haircuts today!
Gina from @oaxacaborn, back again with more #ihsnet takeover. Let's talk about nurturing a global perspective. I believe it's crucial to do so in a way which allows each culture to have a strong, individual identity, don't you? And it's so important to select books with a wide range of diverse, nuanced, strong main characters, not just ones which present everything from a Western point-of-view. There's a map in this video, but this is about so much more than maps. This is about the human stories hidden in the lines and dots on the maps -- both halfway across the world and right next door, in our own cities. This is more than history and geography. I don't just want to just know the way things once were, I want to know the way things are. I want us to immerse ourselves in real stories of real boys and girls, living real lives, right now. What are some of the ways you've nurtured a diverse perspective in your home? Do you attend local cultural festivals? Stop in at small non-chain supermarkets from time to time to try different foods? Practice a foreign language with native speakers in your area?
It started with a pulley. The first few #LEGO trolleys either fell to their doom or made it to the end, but exploded upon hitting the coffee table at the end of the line. Each failure led to improvement until finally, oh sweet victory! Both kids had working trolleys! All the more sweet as they had to work for it, sometimes through tears of frustration. . . . . . . #failure #trolley #learnthroughplay #homeschoolkids #homeschoolingproblems #stem #education #freetolearn #kids #momlife #realmoms #oldfashionedfun #playwithyourkids #letthemplay #letkidsbekids #homeschoolkids #hskids #homeed #ihsnet #unschool #unschooling #unschoolers #legos #problemsolving #physics #kidsunplugged #childhood #childhoodunplugged #joy #happinessis
Getting the last of their energy out before we started school this morning!
Our science lesson today is courtesy of https://watertestingkits.com. 💦 We're testing the alkalinity, pH, hardness, iron, chlorine, nitrates, nitrites, copper, and total dissolved solid levels of various water sources in and around our home. 💦 It's SO cool learning that we've made a really good decision to switch to spring water for drinking! 💦 (ad) #homeschoolscience #naturexplorers
Writing a little more today 🖊+ shooting a couple of videos 🌿. Also doing some more #homeschoolroom decluttering. It's moving at a 🐌 snail pace but I really want to take my time with it this year. Im noticing how much of a visual learner and creator I am (or maybe remembering it again similar to a character in this book I'm reading 📖 more deets on that later). . . A funny thing starts to happen when I start clearing out a room... as the space opens up - I also start getting images and visions 💆🏻of how I want the space to look and what should be there. I'm sure it's true to most moms and creatives.. But I was watching a movie yesterday and it was amazing to see it happen for someone else (in a completely different calling). . . Mark Ruffalo in the movie #beginagain ☀️does it while hearing Keira Knightly play a song at an open mic 🎤 (see a clip of the scene in my instastory by clicking on my profile pic. In it he imagines ☁️ all of the instruments accompanying her 🎻🥁). It's such a m o v i n g story! Have you seen it yet? . . The songs are also beautifully done, and who knew Keira Knightly could sing?! I Love her in this movie 💗. Im playing the soundtrack while I write today because music is another thing that's just life to me + our house. . . My brood is off visiting the gparents today so I won't have any pics of them up until tomorrow. It feels strange waking up to a "more-quiet-than-usual" house 🏡. I'm missing them already 👫 but I'm sure they're enjoying being #bilingualkids talking it up with grandma. . . What are you up to this wonderful Wednesday ☕️ ? . . . . . xoxo
One of the beautiful things about our new narration station is that it is portable. We grabbed the containers today and took lessons outside. ☺️🌳
At this time of year, a lot of moms out there are getting sick of waking up to a house that looks like this and are counting down the days until school starts. Not me, though. Yesterday on my YouTube channel, I shared why I homeschool. https://youtu.be/JFVT6sJPUrE If you do, what are your reasons?
We've been learning about fossils since last week, so last night the kids made their own using plaster of Paris. They really turned out nice!
It amazes me to watch my son do his math on the computer and complete it without using a single piece of scratch paper. I NEED to write it down but he does it all in his head.
I grabbed this book at the library yesterday because I liked the cover. Jax and I discovered today that it went along perfectly with our science and history lessons as it is written as a journal of a cat through her 9 lives throughout different time periods and countries. It's a super cute book. #mymunchkinjax #homeschoolforthewin #jaxschoolsathome #ihsnet #welovebooks #myninelives
